The 19th Hermanus wine and food festival was held on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th August 2017. This was the second year the event was hosted at the Hermanus Curro private school which is an ideal location for this festival. On arrival at the venue, you are guided onto the schools sports ground which provides ample parking and very close to the entrance of the festival. At the entrance each visitor can pay R50 to enter and also choose to pay a further R120 if you would like to…

Tuning the Vine – Cape Town Inner City Wine Route

Share Button

I was in for a wine adventure exploring the inner city wine route at Tuning the Vine! It happens every 2nd Wednesday of the month and if you have not tried it yet, here’s why you should! What? The Wine Girl at a club and not a wine farm haha. You should know that I literally live in the vineyards up north so I hardly ever venture into the city. So rather embarrassingly, this was my first experience of Tuning the Vine. Here is my experience: I got my tickets online…

Brenaissance – Stellenbosch

Share Button

A contemporary getaway into the country just down the road from JC Le Roux on the Devon Valley Road in Stellenbosch. The journey to the farm along the Devon Valley road  is rather long (about 10-15 minutes) and you will pass a smelly dumping tip but once you arrive to the farm, the beautiful scenery welcomes you. There is plenty of parking and the walk to the restaurant is not far (wheelchair friendly). Although reservations are recommended, the restaurant does have plenty of tables as well as a waiting area which overlooks…

De Grendel – Durbanville

Today I visited De Grendel wine farm in Durbanville. The wine tasting room has fantastic decor which is warm and welcoming however getting here is quite an unusual experience. Prepared to get your drivers license and tax disk scanned! I must say that I didn’t like that.    De Grendel prides themselves on their Shiraz 2014. I am not a fan of Shiraz however this was smoother than expected. On the nose you will pick up hints of Coriander, lavender, white pepper and some floral notes. On the palate it…

The generous invitation included partners and was also for a Friday, my favorite day of the week to relax in the beauty of the cape. Clos Malverne is situated on Devon Valley road, Stellenbosch, about 45 minutes drive from Capetown close to JC Le Roux and Hartenberg wine estates. The restaurant offers a la carte or you can select the food and wine pearing experience. We were definately…

The farm is located on the R43 just passed Botrivier probably +/-25 minutes outside of Hermanus. The restaurant is named “Open” and projects a country themed farm atmosphere and  overlooks a picturess landscape scene of green fields…

Hartenberg Wine Estate- Certain Charm!

Along Bottelary road towards Stellenbosch on the right you will find the Hartenberg wine estate. As you leave the M23 onto the property the extended driveway to the estate is very long and takes you deep into the countryside. (tarred all the way). A relaxed lunch on a Thursday was the order of the day.  Friendly staff met us at the entrance to the restaurant and Andrew showed us to a lovely table under some reddish coloured vines. Very pretty surrounds for an outdoor lunch experience. As it was 12h30…
